Marathon Training Week 7: What a difference a week makes!

Last week was a rough one for me, but I am happy to report that this week went much better!  My Dad has been moved nearby for rehabilitation so not only is he moving in the right direction, but we can visit him easily which I love.  On top of that, we’ve had some beautiful weather which allowed me to get outside for my early morning runs and back outside with the kids during the day.  What a different a week makes!

This week I had to move around a few of my runs because of my own personal calendar which meant that I didn’t get a rest day before my long run.  Ideally, that would not have been the case, but sometimes you’ve got to just fit everything in and get the miles done when you can.

Here’s my recap of Week 7.

Monday – Rest Day

Tuesday – Up and out for 6:15 AM with my neighbor and running buddy, Jillian.  We ran a 4 mile loop through town and were home before we knew it.  Thank God for running buddies!

Wednesday – Double workout day!  I met up with my running buddy again at 6 AM for a 4.87 mile run on one of our favorite routes.  The first half was uphill and the second half was downhill so it was a nice mix.  Even though it was dark when we started and I had to pull out the headlamp for this one, I got to take my gloves off for the first time this winter because it was in the mid 30’s (which meant it felt like spring)!  It was a foggy morning at the top of the hill, but by the time we made it home, the birds were chirping and the sun was out.  What a way to start the day!

Wednesday night I fit in 1 hour of  strength training after the kids were in bed.  As always, I used a routine provided by FEAST Athletics, this time focusing on legs and core.

Thursday – Headed out at 5:45 AM for 7 solo miles.  It was a bit warmer, but the wind was howling!  There were creaking trees, barking dogs, and tree stumps that looked like animals on the move since it was dark at the start and I was alone.  It reminded me how nice it is to have my buddy along with me for these early morning runs.  Despite that though, it was an awesome, fast run for me and started my day off right!

Friday – Long run day!  I met two friends in Manchester for a 16 miler.  We started around 7 AM so it was a bit later than I’m used to and it was chilly out there!  Great run overall though and very happy to get these miles done so I could rest Saturday…or so I thought…

Saturday – Rest day turned into mini-workout day.  Oops!  I attended the GMMRTT 2nd Birthday party event at Diamond Fit Diva Studio in Manchester, NH where I intended to finally meet in person other members of the group, have some fun, and eat some cake.  Well, after a mini barre class followed by a strength and conditioning class for runners, I got my cake.  It was an awesome event, but by no means qualified as a rest day.

Sunday – I debated blowing off my last run for the week and having a true rest day, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about finishing the week strong.  So a bit later than usual, I jumped on the treadmill for 5 miles and finished off the week strong.  I’m so glad I did it.

Total mileage this week was 37.  Total mileage this month is 70.  Total mileage YTD is 300.  I am getting closer to my 2015 goal of 1,000 miles and feeling stronger with every run!
